UTICA, N.Y. – Utica police have arrested a murder suspect accused of fatally shooting a man on Brinckerhoff Avenue earlier this month.
Zaharae Wright, 20, of Utica, allegedly shot 25-year-old Jamaal Jackson on the 1200 block of Brinckerhoff Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on June 17. Jackson was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment, where he later died from his injuries.
When police found Wright, he had a loaded 9mm handgun on him, and initially resisted arrest, according to officers.
He was eventually taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and obstructing governmental administration, as well as multiple violations.
Police say more arrests are expected in this case, and Wright will likely face further charges.
