UTICA, N.Y. – Nearly one year after a fatal shooting on James Street in Utica, the shooter was found guilty of murder in Oneida County Court on Wednesday.
Cleastore Jefferson, 42, died at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after he was shot several times on the 100 block of James Street on July 21, 2020.
Justin Peak, 33, was named as a suspect in the case on July 29, and turned himself in to police on Aug. 12. He was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The jury found him guilty on both counts.
Peak is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 17.
