UTICA, N.Y. – Syracuse native Stephen Rathbun won the 2021 Boilermaker 15K race Sunday, with a time of 47 minutes and 31 seconds.
Rathbun currently lives in Springfield, New Jersey, but made it back to his hometown area for the Boilermaker Road Race.
Without any elite international runners in this year’s race, it presented a chance for the first time in decades for a local Boilermaker winner.
“Wow I can’t believe it, what a huge day, that’s massive being from Syracuse; this is like a homecoming, so, this is awesome, this is huge,” Rathbun said about his win.
The second-place finisher was Sam Morse, of Camden, with a time of 47:44.
Abshir Yerow of Syracuse took third place with 47:48.
Remsen native Savannah Boucher, who currently lives in Texas, won in the women's division, finishing the race in 56 minutes at 24 seconds.
