SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Highly-touted recruit Benny Williams, of Bowie, MD, has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play collegiate basketball for Syracuse University.

A 6'8" forward, Williams is regarded as a five-star prospect by Rivals.com and a four-star prospect by 247Sports.com.

He is playing his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida after previously playing for St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Maryland. The uncertainty over the status of winter sports this academic year at St. Andrew's lead to his decision to enroll at IMG Academy.

This past season, in 2019-20, Williams averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game, helping St. Andrew's to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference title and a 24-4 overall record. He received Washington Post First-Team All-Met and all-conference selections.

WIlliams had verbally committed to Syracuse earlier this year, but finally made it official, Wednesday, with the signing.

His arrival next winter, as the lone commit from the class of 2021, has excited Orange fans since the verbal commitment was made.

"Watching Syracuse since Dion Waiters, Jerami Grant, I grew up watching Syracuse and just to be loved by fans and not even playing a game yet is crazy," said Williams. "But I know I'm going to be loved a lot more once I start playing. I have a lot to do."

Williams described his game as fitting perfectly into Syracuse's style of play, comparing his game to that of C.J. Fair and Carmelo Anthony.

He has been ranked as high as 22nd overall nationally in the class of 2021, and the seventh best small forward in the nation.

Benny Williams national recruit rankings:
