Utica, N.Y. - A traffic reminder for your Monday morning commute, as well as general travel in what may be the area's busiest interchange.
The New York State Department of Transportation will be shutting down three of the four ramps leading to or coming off the Route 8 bridge at the Utica/New Hartford line.
This is the bridge over the arterial, and here's the big news, the ramps are not scheduled to reopen until the bridge is completely replaced in spring of next year.
The three ramps that will close are very busy ones :
- Route 5/8/12 southbound to Route 8 southbound.
- Route 8 northbound to Route 5/8/12 southbound.
- Route 5/8/12 northbound to Route 840 westbound.
Route 8 northbound to Route 5/8/12 northbound will remain open.
In addition, Campion Road access to Route 5/8/12 northbound will also be closed to through traffic.
So starting tomorrow morning, life is going to change for many of us here locally as this is probably the most used interchange in our area.
You will have to find alternate ways to get around that area.
The D.O.T. is urging motorists to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license.
