UTICA – The case of the Utica teen who is accused of killing another Utica teen earlier this month is headed to Oneida County Court.
Jorge Campos, 18, is accused of shooting 17-year-old Stefan Medina to death on Aug. 19. Utica City Court officials confirmed on Friday that the case is now headed to Oneida County for a grand jury to review.
Around 8:30 p.m. Aug. 19, Utica police were called to the 700 block of Elizabeth Street for a report of shots fired. Medina was found at the scene with a gunshot wound, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Campos was arrested this week in connection to the shooting death. He’s charged with first-degree manslaughter, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
On Wednesday, Campos pleaded not guilty to the charges.
