UTICA, N.Y. -- The North Carolina man accused of shooting a Utica man in the head and the groin was in Utica City Court. He was set to be arraigned, but the felony hearing actually took place.
The victim, 36-year-old Willie Jefferson’s girlfriend, took the stand Wednesday after an arraignment quickly turned into a felony hearing.
She described Will answering the door early Saturday morning on Lenox Avenue, fighting with a person, and hearing at least two gunshots.
She says the intruder came into the bedroom, took marijuana, saw her feet and kicked them, and asked where the money was.
In her testimony, she says he took her purse and told her to call police or else "that boy's gonna die,” and he told her he'd remember her face.
She identified Malik Clea as the person who said all this, but says she never saw a weapon.
The defense asked if anyone else could have been there.
The felony hearing continued into the afternoon Wednesday.
Police did say the victim is still at a Syracuse hospital, and that his condition is improving.
