VERONA, NY – The 3rd annual Kristin’s Fund Gala to benefit local domestic violence prevention and awareness took place at the Turning Stone Casino Saturday.
The gala featured plenty of food, music from the band Showtime, and raffle prizes, including a luxury trip silent auction, and a jewelry raffle.
Special VIP guests included Olympic bronze medalist Erin Hamlin, and Syracuse football legend Floyd Little.
Kristin’s Fund was formed in honor of Kristin Palumbo Longo, who died as a result of domestic violence in 2009.
The organization helps fund local programs that aim to curb domestic violence.
“Prevention is at the core of what we’re doing,” says Kristin’s Fund board member Joe Palumbo.
“It’s always been our number one mission. If we can reach the kids at an early age, and teach them the warning signs of abusive relationships, you know, what to look out for. We also want to teach the boys how to grow up to be respectful young men. Hopefully, they aren’t the types who grow up to be abusers. So we really focus on teaching and prevention.”
The keynote speaker for the event was New York Times best-selling author, and domestic violence survivor, Leslie Morgan Steiner.
She spoke about the difficulties of not only recognizing that one is in an abusive situation but being able to get out of it as well.
