With colder temperatures in the forecast, one local church is asking for as many warm clothing items as possible.
The Clothing Closet located at the First Baptist Church, corner of George and Embargo streets, provides free clothing and bedding to people in need. The closet is in need of adult and children's clothing, coats, boots, hats and gloves. Bedding supplies are also in need, such as blankets, pillows and sheets, especially king and queen sizes.
The closet is run completely by donations and volunteers. It serves hundreds of people all year long, but during the winter months donations are needed even more.
"I think it's intended for us to help our brothers and sisters," said Vie Evans, a volunteer with the closet. "We certainly all can do that, as you look around we have lots of things we think we need...but there's somebody there who doesn't have anything. So by giving, people giving what they really don't need, it helps somebody else."
With a referral from a local Social Service agencies, people may take items they need for their family once a month.
The Clothing Closet is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
