UTICA, N.Y. – As gyms across the state await the green light to reopen, The Fitness Mill in Utica is moving forward with construction of its new facility.
Ground was broken Wednesday morning at 1532 Oriskany St. West, which formerly belonged to the City of Utica’s Urban Renewal Agency.
The new 'Live It! Downtown' complex will feature other retailers as well, including Gentleman's Corner Barbershop and King Water Chiropractic.
"It attracted some great businesses that want to be a part of Live It Downtown. We've got Barks on the Boulevard, we've got Blend, we've got King Water Chiropractic, Brand It Screen Printing we've got Key's Busy Bees, which is a daycare, we've got Gentleman's Corner Barbershop coming with us -- we've got, of course, Peter's Cornacopia. So, those are some well established names to go along with the Fitness Mill. It's just an honor to be in a building with everybody," said Alex Carbone, owner of The Fitness Mill.
The five acres of land was sold to Carbone Commercial Property in February for $400,000.
A vacant building that used to be an auto parts storage facility was demolished before the land was sold.
The complex is expected to be completed by June 2021.
