UTICA, N.Y. - Susan Bennett, the original voice of Apple's Siri spoke at MVCC on Thursday night.
Bennett is from the area, she grew up in Clinton, N.Y.
She is a voice over artist and became the voice of Siri in 2011 without even knowing it.
In July of 2005, Bennett was hired by ScanSoft to record a bunch of material for an entire month, four hours per day, five days per week. She was not told what the recordings would be used for. She had no idea that six years later, she would be speaking to over 100 million people all over the world.
"The day that Siri showed up is the day I found out that she had my voice," Bennett said. "A fellow voice actor emailed me and said 'hey we're playing around with this new iphone app and isn't this you?' And I was like 'what?' so I went on the Apple site and listened and yes that was my voice, and I was completley shocked."
Bennett says being the voice of Siri has changed her life and career.
