Milk was distributed in West Winfield and Rome Thursday, in conjunction with the American Dairy Association and Dairy Farmers of America.
The West Winfield giveaway was held at Mount Markham school.
Herkimer County legislator, Ray Donley, said residents were grateful to receive the products.
“One of the best things that's happened so far as the lady was in tears, she was so happy to get the milk; most people are very happy to get it,” he said.
In Rome, more than 9,000 gallons were handed out to people during the drive-thru event, each car getting two gallons of milk.
Local farmers came out to the event, including Terri DiNitto from DiNitto Farms. She said grant money was used to purchase the milk through the Dairy Farmers of America.
“This milk was purchased through one of the grants that was through the state to help get food into the communities. This is part of that. milk was purchased through DFA, which is Dairy Farmers of America, and our farm is part of that,” she said.
Oneida County workers were also in Rome at the giveaway, handing out packs of masks.
