Things were looking busy at the Clark Athletic Center as many people are getting ready for the American Heart Run and Walk. The conditions for tomorrow's run itself looks decent but it’s still going to be cold and the advice is the same, make sure you wear layers.
"I always get setup the night before. I like wearing layers. I have my gortex suit, I have my mittens, I have a dry foot long sleeve shirt, a short sleeve shirt, and an extra pair of socks," said Joseph Wilczynski, the President of the Mohawk Valley Hill Striders
Boilermaker Race Director Jim Stasaitis says, "Rule of thumb is if you step out the door and you have a little bit of a chill you are probably dressed properly. You don't want to overdress but again if you are more suseptable to the cold, wear mittens instead of gloves, have a light set of gloves in your pocket whatever. Again you can always taake things off but if you don't have anything to put back on. that's a bad thing."
If you typically wear too many layers you want to make sure that whatever it is you wear you can either take it off and tie it around your waist, or have the ability to put it in your pocket.
"Normally on a 20 degree day depending on the temperature you are going to be chilling pretty fast. So we have the advantage of getting inside and getting the body temperature up especially when you're sweating. You don't want to get the chills. That's why you have a change of clothes. Get some warm clothes on, so I wouldn't stay out to long."
Don't forget to warm up, stretch, and stay hydrated if you are running.
