OLD FORGE N.Y.-A Town of Webb 6th grader made a difference in the community by shaving her head for a great cause on Labor Day Monday.
Courtney Hitchcock shaved her head in front of friends and family in front of the Strand Theatre in Old Forge.
Courtney says she used to go to the Theatre all the time to see movies, and with the theatre being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic, Hitchcock wanted to give back.
She accepted donations for the Strand, raising $2,650.
Courtney's Mom Heidi shaved her head, and before shaving cut her hair off in pony tails to be donated to Wigs for Kids with cancer.
Both Courtney and Heidi tell NEWSChannel 2, it's great to give back to the theatre that has done so much for them.
"Bob and Helen have been doing like nice things for everyone, like putting the signs up for birthdays and anniversarys and I thought that it would be nice to give back to them since they have been nice all these years." said Courtney.
Heidi says, Courtney was looking to shave her head anyway.
"I'm really proud (of Courtney), she's always wanted to shave her head anyways, but for her to come up with a great idea that helps not only cancer patients, but also Bob and Helen who have helped everyone in town over the years it's really exciting." said Heidi.
As a thank you for doing this, Courtney and her family and friends were presented with free popcorn from the Theatre's owners Bob Card and Helen Zyma, and Courtney was also presented with a Strand shirt.
All proceeds Courtney raised will be donated to Bob and Helen at the Strand.
