WESTERN, NY - Mother Nature has not been kind to the town of Western this July. First, a tornado ripped through the community, about two weeks later, torrential rain and flooding.
Thursday, dozens of residents took a much-needed break from their hardships and headed to the Western Town Park for a night of fun and magic. Local magician Leon Etienne was on hand to perform some of his classic magic tricks, and he had no shortage of eager young volunteers.
The event was hosted by the Western Town Library and there was no admission. Best of all, for a few hours, everyone’s problems seemed to disappear.
“I can tell you for me personally, I need this,” said Western Town Library Director Mary Jo Miller. “My house was one of the houses that got hit pretty hard. There are some families that are still displaced and can’t return to their houses. I think a lot of people never thought they would smile again, but you do. You do. The people who come in to help you make you smile. And then this, this is really going to make a difference”.
If you'd like to catch Leon Etienne’s Magic Rock's show, you can do so at the Strand Theatre in Old Forge. He's performing there every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through August 15th.
