ROME – What started out as a seemingly normal traffic stop in the city of Rome Tuesday morning led to an important question for a local couple.

Two Rome police cruisers pulled over a Pontiac convertible in the Westgate Plaza on Erie Boulevard West Tuesday morning, and after asking the driver, Brandon, some questions, police said they’d gotten word of a possible verbal dispute and asked him to step out of the car.

When the passenger, Makayla, got out of the vehicle at the request of an officer, she was escorted around the back of the car where Brandon was waiting on one knee. After a second of confusion, Brandon opened a ring box and his surprise proposal was met with an “Oh my God!”

With the ring on her hand, Makayla told the officers the good news – she said yes!

Brandon contacted Rome police to orchestrate the traffic stop, but did not want to share further information.
