A trial date has been set for the man accused of shooting a Rome man to death outside of Sammy G’s bar last summer and then eluding police for nearly two weeks.
Robert Coffin is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He’s accused of shooting 25-year-old Thomas Shepherd Jr. outside of Sammy G’s bar in Rome on Aug. 19, 2017. He was found in Las Vegas nearly two weeks later.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for March 16 in Oneida County Court, and the trial is scheduled to begin on March 19.
In December, Coffin rejected a plea offer to accept a second-degree murder charge in exchange for 23 years to life in prison.
If convicted, Coffin faces 25 years to life in state prison.
