UTICA, N.Y. – A trial started in New York State Supreme Court Monday, to determine damages in a defamation case against a former candidate for Oneida County executive.
Caitlin McCann, a former county worker, sued 2019 county executive candidate Dave Gordon, for publicly spreading false rumors about an affair between she and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente. Gordon also falsely claimed McCann was pregnant with Picente’s child.
The judge ruled in McCann’s favor in February, saying Gordon failed to provide evidence that any of his allegations were true.
This trial will decide how much McCann is owed in damages.
