UTICA, N.Y. - Two Utica Common Council members dispute eye-witness accounts of a physical fight that allegedly happened at Tuesday night's finance budget meeting.

WKTV heard from multiple sources that there was a physical altercation between two Utica Common Council members. Those two members were Joe Marino, who is currently running for Utica mayor, and Frank DiBrango.

WKTV, along with other local reporters, went down to the City's regular common council meeting Wednesday night to get answers, on the record.

The meeting Wednesday night was quiet and after the meeting, Marino and DiBrango gave a comment about the eye-witness accounts of a fight.

Both council members say there was no physical altercation, but they say despite what they call rumors of a fight, it was a spirited debate instead. They say they had a disagreement during the meeting about the police and fire budgets.

Marino and DiBrango agreed to go on camera together.

"There was a spirited debate about some issues we disagreed on and we still do, we're still working on it and there is no issue whats so ever," Marino said. "We got a long way to go and this budget process is much bigger than politics."

"We're going to agree on things in the future, disagree on things, like he said it was just a spirited debate," DiBrango said. "We walked out fine and we're fine today."

WKTV reached out to a Utica Police officer who was there and he said he did not want to get involved. WKTV also reached out to the Mayor, but were not able to make a connection and WKTV asked about the cameras in the room where the alleged fight took place, but were told the media doesn't have access to that feed.
