ROME, N.Y. (UPDATED) – Two people were arrested after allegedly shoplifting from the Walmart in Rome, and threatening a loss prevention officer with a BB gun when confronted.
Police were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. for a larceny in progress with a weapon involved, following multiple reports of shots fired.
Alexander J. Sisti, 24, and Aubry E. Mayo, 19, are both accused of hiding jewelry, headphones and camping merchandise inside their jackets and backpacks and attempting to leave the store. When a loss prevention officer attempted to stop them, Sisti allegedly threatened the officer with what was thought to be a handgun. Police later determined it was a BB gun. Police say there was no evidence that any shots were fired at the scene.
The two then ran toward the parking lot. Troopers and Oneida County sheriff’s deputies who were at the scene began searching for the suspects, who were found hiding behind a business on Rome-Taberg Road.
Both were taken into custody.
Sisti was charged with second-degree robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Oneida County jail.
Mayo was charged with petit larceny, issued an appearance ticket and released.
