ROME, N.Y. – Two men were arrested in Rome just after midnight Friday when police stopped a vehicle and found a handgun in the back seat.
The vehicle was pulled over on North James Street near West Dominick Street around 12:30 a.m.
The driver, 30-year-old Anthony Roberts, of Rome, and his passenger, 27-year-old Kevin Monroe, of Utica, were asked to get out of the vehicle after officers spotted open alcohol containers and the 9mm handgun. Police recovered the gun and suspected marijuana from the vehicle, and both men were arrested.
The two were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and possession of open containers in a motor vehicle. Roberts was also charged with vehicle and traffic violations.
