WKTV - The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced, Monday, that two clubs will not play in the upcoming 2020-21 season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Monterrey Flash and Soles de Sonora, both Mexico-based teams, have been granted a sabbatical for the season due to uncertainty surrounding international travel and immigration restrictions.
In the announcement, the league said those uncertainties create unpredictable timelines for league events and scheduling.
Both teams will suspend operations for the upcoming season, but will retain league membership and voting rights throughout the sabbatical.
Utica City FC travelled to Sonora in the 2019-20 season where they split a pair of games south of the border against Los Soles on February 29 and March 1 by scores of 12-11 and 14-5 respectively. UCFC won the former.
The MASL has not yet released plans for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
