UTICA, N.Y. (UPDATED) – Two people were arrested Tuesday night after Utica police located a suspect in a Rome shooting on Steuben Street.
UPD, with the help of Rome police and Oneida County Sheriff's Office, found 35-year-old Joseph F. Amberg Jr. on the 1500 block of Steuben Street in Utica around 11:45 p.m. Amberg is accused of shooting a man in the leg at the Byrne Dairy in Rome on March 17.
Amberg was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
While taking Amberg into custody, Utica police say a woman fled to the back yard. Officers followed after her and saw her drop a quantity of suspected cocaine, so they searched the surrounding area, where they also found a loaded .22 caliber handgun.
Police arrested the woman, identified as 22-year-old Barbara Walter, and charged her with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
Police say drug-related charges may also be filed after the suspected cocaine is tested and confirmed.
The gun found at the scene has also been sent to a lab for testing, according to Rome police.
