ALBANY, N.Y. – Unemployment rates have been steadily decreasing in the Mohawk Valley since the height of the coronavirus pandemic in April.
Below are the unemployment rates for local counties in June compared to April, according to the Department of Labor:
Oneida County
- April 2020: 15.1%
- June 2020: 11%
- 4.1% decrease
Herkimer County
- April 2020: 15%
- June 2020: 9.9%
- 5.1% decrease
Otsego County
- April 2020: 12%
- June 2020: 9.3%
- 2.7% decrease
Since June of 2019, the number of jobs available in the private sector has decreased by more than 1.4 million. The state’s private sector job count is based on a payroll survey of 18,000 New York employers.
