The United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica says "thank you" on Friday, February 14th, to everyone who contributed to this year's fundraising campaign. What better way to say "thank you" than with cookies!
United Way staff and volunteers made surprise visits to a number of local offices, including Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporations, which is one of the top supporters of United Way programs. Employees here donated more than $45,000, about $12,000 more than their fundraising goal.
We spoke to the Erin Gutierrez Matt, the Executive Director and CEO of United Way, about why they made this stop at Rising Phoenix. Mrs. Gutierrez Matt said "This year we selected Rising Phoenix. They've long been a partner of United Way. They ran an incredible fundraising campaign this year and they've been really involved from a volunteer perspective too. It was a really great opportunity to say thank you to them for all that they do to support the work that we do."
We also spoke with the Steve Surace, the President of Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporation, who tells us how excited he is to achieve this and how happy he is with his employees. Mr. Surace says "Thanks to United Way and our great staff, we've been able to increase and far exceed our goal for the year, both the goal that United Way gave us and the goal that we self-imposed. Really it's a result of the donations of our staff and the giving attitudes of our staff."
Other United Way employees stayed at their office to make phone calls and send post cards to all the people that make donations.
This is the one day United Way is not accepting donations. This is their 11th annual day of thanks.
