An outstandingly warm day is expected for Monday. Starting the morning cooler in the mid
30s, but with abundant sunshine highs will be in the lower 60s. This is well above the usual
temperatures for this time of year.
For Utica during the beginning of March, normal high temperatures are in the upper 30s, with
lows in the lower 20s. This means our high temperatures could reach near 25 degrees above
You may be thinking that this unusual warmth is enough to break a record. Think again, it's
actually not even close to the record. For Rome Griffiss Airport, the location we collect data
from, the record high temperature for March 9th is 75°F set in 2016. This is about 10-15°F
warmer than what we are expecting on Monday.
This warm weather extends into Monday night, with overnight lows only reaching the lower 40s.
This low temperature has better luck breaking a record than the high temperature for Monday. The
warmest recorded low temperature for March 9th is at 39°F set in 2002. We are expecting
temperatures to be even 5°F warmer than that. There is a pretty good chance we will break that
record Monday night.
Not as warm, but still much warmer than normal temperatures are expected for Tuesday. Highs will
be in the mid 50s during the afternoon. This is still about 15-20°F above normal for the
beginning of March in Utica. The record high temperature is much lower for March 10th at 65°F
set in 1977. We are still expected to be about 10 degrees below that. It is possible, but not
very likely that we will break that record.
Enjoy the warm weather this week! This will be perfect weather to go running, walk the dog, go to the
park, hike, or just to sit outside and soak up the sun. However, it will melt a lot of the snow.
This is not good news for those of you who ski, snowboard, sled, or do any outdoor winter
