SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Starting Friday, kids 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult while at Destiny USA in Syracuse, according to the mall’s updated Parental Escort Policy (PEP).
The enhanced PEP requires all guests under 17 to be with an adult aged 21 years or older when visiting the mall during all operational hours, every day of the week.
Destiny USA officials worked with the Syracuse Police Department to develop the policy, which will provide officers more authority to arrest or hold juveniles who violate the mall’s rules of conduct.
“Based on recent discussions with our law enforcement partners at the Syracuse Police Department — as well as feedback from tenants, guests, community leaders and city officials — we determined that broadening the scope of PEP was necessary. It’s also consistent with the evolution of similar safety policies at other major retail complexes, including the Mall of America in Minneapolis,” said Stephen Congel, CEO of Pyramid Management Group.
Anyone not complying with the PEP will be removed from the premises.
Syracuse police also have a new work space on the fifth floor of the mall for on-site officers.
