UTICA N.Y.-Movie Theaters may still be closed, but one church in Utica found a way to show a movie outdoors.
Our Lady of Lourdes church on Genesee street, opened up their parking lot to look like a movie theater Thursday night.
The movie was Despicable Me. Around 50 cars full of families were welcomed to stage in the parking lot and turn up their radios to a specific channel to see the movie.
This was the first time Our Lady of Lourdes hosted a drive-in movie.
Honarine Wallack, a parishoner with Our Lady of Lourdes says a drive-in movie brings back memories for her growing up.
"When I was a kid, I was one of six kid,s and we (had) a huge Buick Stationwagon, and I have good memories of my parents actually taking us out to a Drive-In Movie, and open up the back of the Buick and we would all kind of hang out watching that movie." said Wallack.
Rev. Joesph Salerno, a pastor at the church tells NEWSChannel 2, they're trying to do something fun in the midst of what is going on.
"We're trying to do something that's enjoyable and family fun especially for our children, as we are still in the midst of this pandemic." said Salerno.
The cost of admission was $20 a car, which would give families a family size popcorn and four bottles of water.
Proceeds from admission will go to the church's COVID fund.
