UTICA, N.Y. – Local colleges are now postponing graduation activities in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Utica College is postponing commencement and other in-person graduation events, following guidance of health officials who are advising against mass gatherings.
The college is working with the campus community on developing other options, including a possible virtual event in May.
SUNY Oneonta is rescheduling commencement to sometime this fall. The exact date is yet to be determined. It was previously scheduled for May 9.
“We know this is absolutely heartbreaking for our seniors,” said SUNY Oneonta President Barbara Jean Morris. “Unfortunately, there is just no way to safely move forward with commencement, our largest gathering of the year.”
Updates on preventative measures and cancellations due to coronavirus can be found on the Utica College and SUNY Oneonta websites.
