UPDATE: The Utica Comets have announced that all spots for their blood drive at the Adirondack Bank Center have been filled. They urge people looking to donate to visit Syracuse Crunch's drive at Upstate Medical University Arena or other local venues. They are already looking into adding a second date next month.
UTICA, N.Y. – The Utica Comets are teaming up with other teams across the state for the New York Hockey Gives Blood initiative to benefit the American Red Cross.
The Comets, Syracuse Crunch, Binghamton Devils and Rochester Americans will all hold blood drives on April 17 in an effort to help the Red Cross maintain its blood supply.
“We’re honored to use our combined resources and collaborative efforts to play a small part during these trying times,” said Comets President Robert Esche. “But more importantly, it is our goal that similar venues can make use of their resources in similar fashions. AHL venues exist as the ideal spaces that can adhere to the challenges that come with social distancing.”
The local blood drive will be held at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica from noon to 6 p.m.
