UTICA N.Y.- Utica Residents have complained of fireworks going off illegally overnight in the city.
Wednesday night, the Utica Common Council met, and legislation was passed on the issue.
The Council voted on a proposal that would amend the current noise ordinance laws.
This augmented the city code to call out fireworks and explosives, as specified by New York State law.
"We all know of the fireworks problems we had in the past. This is our first step in the right direction, and I'm just hoping that my colleagues would support it. I do sometimes hear fireworks in the area, occasionally. And, maybe this piece of legislation would be the best step forward for fireworks that are out of the normal day of the 4th of July." said Frank Meola, Utica City Councilman (4th district).
This is expected to be the first of many measures that the City of Utica will add to combat the problem authorities had, leading up to the 4th of July.
