UTICA, N.Y. – Brandy Mowery made a wasted trip to the Utica DMV office on Thursday.
"I got a news break on my phone saying that the computer systems are down and they won't be able to do anything and give it a try tomorrow, which is today," said Mowery, outside the office at Union Station, Thursday. "So I come today, and their computer systems are still down."
Oneida County Clerk, Sandra DePerno, says technicians worked on the problem Thursday, but to no avail.
"So we called the state, they sent a tech. The tech is down there now, now the tech is saying it's not only the state modem, but Spectrum, so Spectrum is also down there so between the two of them hopefully they can get us back up and running for tomorrow, at least," said DePerno.
But it looks like that won't be the case. As of close of business Thursday, the problem still wasn't fixed. The computers went down Wednesday afternoon. They were out of commission all day Thursday, and it appears they will be at least part of Friday.
"This is the longest I can remember the Utica office has been down," said DePerno.
Customers can still leave things in the Utica dropbox, but for transactions that require in-person attention, officials recommend customers visit the Rome DMV until Utica's computers are back up and running.
The Utica DMV faced similar problems in May, closing for two days because of internet connection issues.
