UTICA- Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll says a fire on Howard Ave in Utica was a challenge to get to due to hoarding conditions.
This happened at 1565 Howard Ave around 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Chief Ingersoll tells NEWSChannel 2 the fire was in the second floor apartment. He said there was heavy smoke when they got there.
He says the conditions inside the apartment made it difficult for firefighters to get to. "There were some hoarding type conditions, a lot of garbage in there too that the firefighters had to deal with but they made their way through and they found a fire in the kitchen and were able to get that extinguished."
Ingersoll says the occupants got out safely, and they will getting help from the Red Cross.
The cause is under investigation.
