Michael Kennedy was named EMT of the Year and Lieutenant Kit DiStefano earned the Firefighter of the Year award Thursday night at The American Legion Post 229 in North Utica.
Post 229 has been recognizing members of the department for over 50 years.
But recipients say while the recognition is nice, helping people is of course what they live for.
"It is an everyday thing," said DiStefano. "It's not the big things, it's the small things. When you help folks out who really need help and the only thing they can do is say thank you. That means more than anything."
"Everyday for me going to work is a good day," added Kennedy. "I love my job, I enjoy being there. I enjoy working with the people I work with and I have with it."
Officials thanked them for their bravery and hard work each and everyday.
