Utica police seek suspect in early morning shooting

UTICA – The Utica Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred just before 1 a.m. Friday.

Police say at approximately 12:52 a.m., they responded to the corner of Rutger Street and Belmont Avenue for a report of shots fired with a person injured. Police then found the victim, 21-year-old William Morris, at a different location, and he confirmed that the shooting had occurred at the corner of Rutger Street and Belmont Avenue.

Morris sustained a gunshot wound to the foot, and he was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center to be treated for the non-life-threatening injury.

Police are still looking for a suspect in the shooting.
