UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the city Sunday evening.
Officers were called to the 1600 block of Genesee Street just after 5 p.m. on Sunday for a motor vehicle accident. Around the same time, they received calls about shots fired nearby on the 100 block of Grant Street.

After arriving to the scene on Genesee Street, officers found 19-year-old Eugene Aviles, of Utica, in the crashed vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They believe this crash stemmed from the shooting incident on Grant Street.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Police are still searching for a suspect.
"At this point we don't have anyone in custody. We are attempting to gather suspect information. We are asking for the public’s help. We are using the Neighbors by Ring app to obtain any video surveillance in that area,” said UPD Sgt. Mike Curley. “It's an anonymous system where people can support our investigation by submitting video clips of the time in question. We are looking for any video clips from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., from the areas of Grant Street, Holland Ave., and the 1600 block of Genesee Street.”
