UPDATE: Utica Police identify Lenox Ave. fatal shooting victim

The Utica Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case, which has been classified as a homicide.

UTICA – The man who was shot on the 900 block of Lenox Avenue early Thursday morning has died.

Utica Police say 33-year-old Mark A. Peak died from injuries he sustained around 1:50 a.m. Thursday. Police confirmed Peak's death to NEWSChannel 2 early Thursday afternoon.

Police say Peak was found beside a vehicle suffering from several gunshot wounds. He told officers he was sitting inside his vehicle when a person approached and began shooting.

Peak was taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery, and later died.

The Utica Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case, which has been classified as a homicide. Anyone with any information is asked to call UPD at 315-223-3510. Calls can remain anonymous.
