UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica police welcome a diverse group that includes two minorities and the first ever Karen Utica police officer.
The police chief says it was a grueling six months of meeting physical, personal and psychological requirements for the officers to get to this point.
"For them, it starts in September when they take the written test," Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said. "Then, in November, the results came back, they have to go through a physical agility test, which we see a failure rate of about 50 percent and then after that, background process starts, background investigations are done, then they're given polygraph examinations."
The seven graduates will start police academy on Monday.
