The Rotary Club of Utica hosted their first-ever “Service Above Self Safari" at the Utica Zoo.
Service above self is the motto of the Utica Rotary and Thursday they honored those members who best exemplified that motto.
This year the rotary honored Patrick Johnson and Michelle Brandstadt with the Service Above Self Award, Devon Hoffman and Bart Gorman with the Quiet Giver Award, and Travis Rabbers with the Paul Harris Award.
The rotary club year runs from July to July and the event served as a celebration of what the rotary has accomplished and what they hope to accomplish in the upcoming year.
The "Service Above Self Safari" also served as a fundraiser for the Utica Zoo.
"The zoo had such a challenging time during the pandemic when they were closed down,” says Utica Rotary president-elect Stephen Turnbull.
“The Utica Zoo is such a gem for a community our size. Anything the rotary club can do to give back to an attraction like that in our area, we're more than happy to do so."
