UTICA, N.Y. - Utica community activist, Freddie Hamilton, shared her reaction after hearing that Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris as his running mate.
“I’m very excited about this, we’ve been in suspense for a long time, I think she deserves it, its well-deserved, I’m excited about a woman being on the ticket period black or white,” Hamilton said. “I’m glad Joe Biden had the courage to do it.”
Harris is the third woman is the third woman in history picked by a man to be his running mate, but she's the first woman of color to be chosen.
“I’m particularly pleased that it’s a woman of color, Black people have been very loyal to the Democratic party," Hamilton said. "Congressman Clyburn really brought Joe Biden over the top and the fact that he has acknowledged the contributions of African Americans is very important to me.”
She says this just another proud moment in history for her, the community, and the country.
"I never expected to see a Black president of the United States when we got Barack Obama, and now I’m living to see a woman on the ticket as Vice President, that’s historic," Hamilton said.
Biden made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
