UTICA,N.Y.--- Over 1,000 locations across America on Saturday laid down wreaths at local cemeteries to honor our nation's fallen heroes.
Utica held its ceremony at the Forest Hill Cemetery along Oneida Street where hundreds of wreaths were laid locally.
Its the second year that Utica honored its fallen heroes with the ceremony.
This year, Maria and Michael Babula were the gold star families honored with a special wreath dedicated to their son, Captain George Wood.
He was killed in Iraq back on November 20th, 2003. His family said George would be humbled to see the way he was honored on Saturday.
"I think he would be sad to know how sad I am and how sad his daughter is. But I think he would be very honored because he loved his country and he was so proud of the Army. He was really proud to be apart of the United States Army," said Maria Babula.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi was the guest speaker for the ceremony and said participating in this event was an honor.
"It means a lot for me to see the community come out and support our veterans and to remember those who lost their lives throughout the country," said Brindisi.
