UTICA, N.Y. – Judge David Hurd has extended the restraining order on COVID-19 vaccine mandates for health care workers requesting religious exemptions to Oct. 12.
A group of anonymous health care workers filed suit against Gov. Kathy Hochul, Dr. Howard Zucker and Attorney General Letitia James, saying the vaccine mandate for health care employees violated constitutional rights because religious exemptions were excluded.
The next court date to discuss the matter was initially set for next week on Tuesday, Sept. 28, but has been canceled.
In court documents filed Monday, Sept. 20, Hurd said a written decision for a preliminary injunction would be issued on or before the next court date.
The defendants are still required to respond to the lawsuit by Sept. 22.
