UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica Police say the same man led officers on two high-speed chases, in excess of 100 miles per hour, in less than 48 hours.

The first chase started on Oneida Square Sunday, when police say 24-year-old Alexander Walker hit another car with Maserati that was stolen from Poughkeepsie.

"The officer detailed to Oneida Square, asked both vehicles to pull to the side of the road so he could complete an accident report, and upon approaching the black vehicle, the operator fled at a high rate of speed on Oneida Street," said Sgt. Michael Curley, with UPD.

After people Walker allegedly approached declined his offer of money to hide him from police, he was found in a backyard. He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, obstructing governmental administration and fleeing an officer. He was also issued more than 40 traffic tickets.

Due to bail reform, police say he was not held in the Oneida County Jail. He commented on the Utica Police Department's Facebook post about his arrest: "So thanks for all the negative comments but I'm not going anywhere. There not locking me up. I'm from Utica that's y I'm out here and I'm gonna get another Maserati so you'll see me again."

Police say he followed through on that pledge, leading them on another high-speed chase, Tuesday, after they spotted a car that was stolen from Oswego Street. They say the car was running, with the keys in it, when it was stolen.

"The second pursuit yesterday ended due to the recless action of Mr. Walker, where his two tires were popped based on his driving," said Sgt. Curley.

Walker is in the Oneida County Jail this time, but his $1,000 bail is temporary. Prosecutors, on Thursday, must argue in Utica City Court why they believe the law allows Walker to be held with bail.
