UTICA, N.Y. – A Utica man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly left six dead dogs outside his former home in Delaware County.
Carlos G. Smith, 33, was charged with six counts of failure to provide proper sustenance under the Agriculture and Markets Law, all misdemeanors.
After receiving several complaints, troopers were called to a home on Pine Cliff Circle in Davenport, where they found two adult dogs and four puppies dead inside a crate outside of a trailer.
Police say Smith had evidently left that residence, but an arrest warrant was issued by the town of Davenport.
After putting the word out on social media, state police received several tips leading them to find Smith in Utica on Feb. 11.
He was arrested and released on appearance tickets. He is scheduled to return to court in Davenport on Feb. 23.
