DEERFIELD, N.Y. -- New York Mills Police have arrested a motorcyclist for operating recklessly Thursday evening.
New York Mills Police tell NEWSChannel 2 that a motorcycle was spotted operating recklessly at Commercial Drive and Henderson Street in the Village.
When an officer tried to pull the motorcycle over, the motorcyclist sped off. Not long after that, State Police were dispatched to the Trenton Road Ramp in the Town of Deerfield just before 8:30 p.m. for a reported motorcycle accident.
The motorcyclist involved in the accident, appeared to match the description of the motorcycle that fled the traffic stop in New York Mills. As Police were investigating, the suspect admitted he fled from the New York Mills Police. A New York Mills Police Officer was then called to the scene of the crash in Deerfield, and the suspect was taken into custody.
The motorcyclist has been charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, and reckless driving. He was also issued numerous traffic tickets for having an uninspected, unregistered, and uninsured motorcycle. The motorcycle also had switched license plates according to police.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released, although New York Mills Police say he is from Utica.
He is due to answer the charges in New York Mills Village Court at a later date.
