UTICA, N.Y. – The Mohawk Valley has 32 nursing homes enrolled in the Federal Nursing Home Vaccination Program, and two of them have already started administering doses.
Mohawk Valley Health System was one of the first in the state to begin giving vaccines this week, through a partnership with Walgreens.
A total of 100 residents and 100 staff members at the MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, formerly St. Luke’s Home, received the shots on Monday.
"This disease is especially risky to residents living in long-term care facilities, so having this vaccine provides hope that we are moving in the right direction to get past this pandemic.” said Brandon Johnson, executive director at MVHS RNC.
Masonic Care Community of New York in Utica also held a vaccination clinic Monday for residents in its health pavilion.
According to the MCC website, there are 11 new positive tests at the facility – eight staff members, and three residents.
