UTICA, N.Y. --- On Monday all of Utica's public parks reopened with new guidelines. Those include wearing masks when 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained and social distancing.
"Its cleansing hand sanitizing social distancing wear your mask if you cant be more than 6 feet from someone," said Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri.
The mayor said that everything the state has allowed to reopen is open. Except for the public pools. The city said those will remain closed for now due to strict state guidelines that the city believes would be difficult to enforce.
However, families are elated to get outside after months of shutdown.
"The kids have always come down here, there have never been any problems. They've got good guidance over here with the counselors. Its nothing but a good time and its a good thing that it's back open again," said Ernie Durse.
The parks will be open from 11am-4 pm for now. But the city said those hours can be extended if needed.
