UTICA - A driver struck and killed a dog on Burrstone Road near Seymour Park in Utica Monday afternoon.
According to Utica Police, the dog was hit at the intersection of Burrstone Road and Bennett Street. They said the dog came from Newell Street.
NEWSChannel 2 spoke to a man who tried to help make the dog feel more comfortable. He said he and some co-workers brought water and towels to the dog to try and nurse it back to health, but he said it ended up dying.
He also said they tried getting the driver's license plate number, but were unsuccessful.
"I just hope that the police find this guy or girl. It's pretty sad that you couldn't stop and apologize for what you did and just be there and be a human," said witness James White.
Utica police said people are supposed to report when they hit a cat or dog. They are still looking for the suspect.
