UTICA, N.Y. – Two people have been charged after Utica police found illegal fireworks for sale at local convenience stores.
Both suspects were charged with unlawful possession of fireworks.
Mayor Robert Palmieri has directed Utica police to conducted compliance checks across the city, to make sure local stores aren’t selling illegal fireworks like M-80s and bottle rockets.
A total of 30 stores were checked as part of the operation.
Police found 11 stores were selling sparkling devices without permits. All the sparkling devices were removed from the shelves.
