UTICA, N.Y. – The Genesee Street Children’s Center in Utica held a graduation ceremony Tuesday, for 24 students who completed preschool this year.
The center has a two-year program, giving kids a foundation in subjects like math, English and geography.
While the coronavirus pandemic changed many aspects of the school experience for students in the Class of 2020, staff members say it was still important to celebrate their accomplishments.
"Even though it didn't pan out this year how we imagined, these children have been with us anywhere from one to three years…and we wanted to do anything that we could to make it possible, whether that was us preparing things differently on the back end; they deserve this celebration today," said Alison Watson Mundschenk, executive director at the Children’s Center.
The school has remained open throughout the pandemic, helping many parents who are essential workers with small children.
The Children’s Center also has a location on Court Street.
